Louis Vuitton calls its artisan heritage “savoir-faire.” Translated from French, it literally means “to know how to do.” Inside the Fiesso d’Artico factory, every worker trains for years to hone his or her respective craft. It’s far from the stereotypical notion of factory workers pumping out mass quantities of product for poverty pay. The artisans we meet are proud of their work, unionized, and have comfortable lives outside of shoemaking.
